Three Ways to Help a Child Who is Scared of the Dentist.

by | Mar 12, 2020 | Dentistry

It is normal for a child to have anxiety at the dentist, especially if they have no idea what’s going to happen to them, or they don’t know what to expect. Here are a few helpful tips on how to help them manage, or even completely get rid of, their fear.

Talk to Them

Sometimes your child needs a quick prep talk, a hug, or have someone reassure them everything is going to be fine. Make sure to ask them questions like why are you scared? What freaks you out about the dentist? What do you think is the worst thing that can happen to you here? Would you prefer to choose your dentist? Questions like these will also make your child feel like they have more control over the situation, and they won’t feel as scared.

Give Them Something to Hold During Procedure Time

Things like a teddy bear, a toy, or even allowing your child to hold your hand during the dental procedure can help them a lot with anxiety.
